Moulin Rouge! begins its national tour in Chicago this March. Based on the 2001 film, it is set in the bohemian mecca of Montmarte in Paris during La Belle Époque at the turn of the twentieth century. The story, interspersed with a mash-up of 70 fabulous songs, follows an aspiring American writer and composer named Christian (Conor Ryan) who arrives in Paris in search of inspiration. He finds it in the form of Satine,( Chicago area native and Roosevelt University alum, Courtney Reed) a beautiful courtesan, working as “the sparkling diamond” of the infamous nightclub, the Moulin Rouge.

Courtney Reed is best known for originating the role of ‘Princess Jasmine’ in Disney's smash Broadway hit Aladdin, in which she received a Grammy Nomination. She was last seen in Lauren Yee’s award winning play Cambodian Rock Band at The Signature Theatre. She also had the honor of being a part of the closing company of the Tony Award Winning Musical In The Heights, in which she played ‘Carla,’ u/s ‘Nina’ and ‘Vanessa.’ She made her Broadway debut in Mamma Mia! She will soon be leading the North American Tour launch of the recent Tony Award Winning musical Moulin Rouge as Satine starting in February.
